About This Program
We have three community service opportunities to connect deeply with Costa Rica’s culture through volunteering at a wildlife reserve and education centre, an organic, sustainable farm, and a charity focused on different aspects of the country’s life.
We begin in La Fortuna at the foot of Arenal Volcano. From here we’ll visit stunning waterfalls and swim in hot springs from the volcano. We volunteer at Proyecto Asis’s Wildlife Rescue Center, where we prep food, feed animals or improve their homes inside the centre. Here we’ll connect with spider monkeys, macaws, kinkajous, and caimans.
Next, we’ll travel to Monteverde and the Cloud Forest Reserve to learn about its unique ecology. We’ll have the rare opportunity to take a night hike and discover nocturnal animals while our new daytime jungle friends are sleeping. We’ll also volunteer at Life Monteverde, an organic and sustainable farm, and learn how we can protect this environment sustainably.
Finally, we’ll head to the Guanacaste coast and our private villas in Playas del Coco. We will enjoy ocean and beach fun with swimming, volleyball, and optional surf lessons. Nearby in town, we’ll work closely with a community group playing with, and preparing dinner for, local children.
After connecting with the country’s vibrant ecology and making a difference in the community, we’ll relax in the sun and enjoy a farewell banquet.

Surfing and Beach Time
Costa Rica has long been a popular destination for surfers worldwide, and famous Tamarindo is one of the most coveted beaches for wave riders of all levels on the Pacific Coast. Located in Las Baulas National Park, Tamarindo is a long white-sand beach offering stunning views of the surrounding natural marine park, which has been carefully preserved as it is a nesting site for huge leatherback turtles. The quiet beach is also an ideal destination to learn surfing as it is rarely crowded and provides consistent and rideable waves with perfect left and right peaks.
We will depart the Villas for a short ride through coastal towns before arriving at Tamarindo. There we will be greeted by our surf instructors, who will provide equipment and go over the basics of surfing this famous beach safely. Each student will receive individual attention and instruction before having the opportunity to conquer the waves on their own. Hang ten, and look out for those swells! A delicious lunch is included for all participants.
